# Availability record

Fair use on every tier: no availability percentage is sold; the availability record is public on the status page and /api/v1/status, and incidents are dated there. This page says what that record contains and what the degraded path does for you when an upstream is down; the former commitment with service credits was withdrawn on 2026-10-28.

- The record: the status page lists each component as the operator reports it and the live availability of VIES for each member state from the Commission’s own check-status endpoint; incidents are written there with their date. The same data is served by `GET /api/v1/status`.
- Fair use on every tier: the per-second limits and the monthly allowance are the only limits; nothing else is metered and no availability percentage is promised or sold.
- No availability percentage is sold on any tier (fair use; public availability record): an outage is recorded on the status page and earns no refund.
- Upstream outages (VIES, a member state, the French registries) are answered from the dated cache marked stale, or by a 503 with `retryAfter` that is never counted.

## Why no percentage is sold

The dominant failure mode of a VAT check is the upstream: VIES or a member state’s register, which this service does not operate. A percentage sold on top of that would either exclude the thing that fails most or promise what cannot be kept. The honest offer is the record itself, in public, with dated incidents, and a degraded path documented in advance.

## How the degraded path protects you

When VIES or a member state is down, a validation you asked for in the last 30 days is answered from the cache, marked `source.kind: "cache"` and `stale: true`, with the date it was obtained. You decide whether a dated answer is good enough for the transaction at hand; the API never pretends it is live.

## Where to look

The status page at https://veriport.io/status, the same as JSON at `GET /api/v1/status` (not counted), and the changelog for every change that a caller could notice.

## Questions

### Did the monthly plan lose something?

The plan keeps the bulk endpoints, the higher per-second limit and the consultation numbers; what it no longer carries is a 99.9 % figure with service credits, which was withdrawn on 2026-10-28 because the service could not stand behind it honestly. Nobody had been charged for it.
