Terms of service

These terms govern the use of the Veriport API and website operated by Janolab Studio LLC ("we"). By creating a key or calling the API you accept them. Last updated 2026-10-29.

1. The service

Veriport provides an HTTP API that (a) relays EU VAT number validation requests to the European Commission’s VIES service and returns its answers, live or from a cache that is marked as such; (b) returns EU VAT rates from a table we maintain from public sources, with the date each row was verified; (c) turns a sales export into OSS and IOSS return lines checked against that table, as a file you submit yourself; (d) validates the structure of IBANs against the ISO 13616 registry and the mod 97-10 check; (e) returns French company data from the French administration’s open registries; (f) returns US sales-tax rates from public state tables, with the coverage of each answer. The service returns data; it does not file any return, and does not decide the tax treatment of a transaction or the existence of a bank account.

2. Nature of the service

The service is software: it processes the data you send (a VAT number, an IBAN, a company identifier, an invoice file, sales rows) with published rules, checksums and public registries, and returns the result with its source and date. It is not legal, tax, accounting or financial advice, it does not vet a counterparty for you, and it creates no professional relationship (lawyer, accountant, tax or financial adviser) between you and Janolab Studio LLC. You check each result before you rely on it or use it in an invoice, a return, a payment or a file you send or upload, and you remain responsible for that use.

3. Accounts and keys

A key is issued to a verified e-mail address, one active key per address. You keep the key secret and are responsible for the calls made with it. We may revoke a key used in breach of these terms or in a way that endangers the service or its upstream providers (for instance a request pattern that gets our addresses blocked by VIES); we say so by e-mail and, when a published limit changes, in the changelog.

4. Free tier and paid tiers

The free tier (100 calls a month) is offered as is and may be changed or withdrawn with a notice in the changelog; existing paid credits are never reduced. Paid tiers are sold by Stripe as merchant of record (seller: Sold through Link, LLC, the entity that provides Stripe Managed Payments, Stripe's merchant-of-record service (the checkout, the receipt and the card statement show "Link")): Stripe is the seller on your invoice, collects payment and the applicable taxes, and handles refunds under its own terms in addition to ours. Prepaid credits are valid 12 months from purchase. Refunds: A credit pack none of whose calls were used is refunded in full on request within 14 days of purchase. A monthly plan cancelled within 14 days of its first charge is refunded pro rata to the unused days; after that, cancelling stops the renewal at the end of the paid month. No availability percentage is sold on any tier (fair use; public availability record): an outage is recorded on the status page and earns no refund. The monthly plan renews monthly until cancelled.

5. Acceptable use

You may not resell raw access to the API as a competing validation service, scrape it to rebuild our tables, circumvent limits or the key system, or send data you have no right to process. You may store and reuse answers in your own systems, including as audit evidence.

6. Availability and support

We aim at continuous availability and publish a self-reported status page. Fair use on every tier: no availability percentage is sold; the availability record is public on the status page and /api/v1/status, and incidents are dated there. No availability percentage is sold on any tier (fair use; public availability record): an outage is recorded on the status page and earns no refund. Upstream services (VIES, member-state systems) are outside our control; their unavailability is handled by the documented degraded path and is not a failure of the service.

7. Liability

The service relays and structures public data. To the extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim arising from the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, and we are not liable for indirect losses, lost revenue, tax reassessments, penalties or payments sent to a wrong account. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

8. Data

What we process and keep is described in the privacy policy. The data you send is processed to answer the request. VAT numbers and the VIES answers are cached for up to 30 days to serve the degraded path, and French company answers for up to 30 days for the same reason; IBANs, OSS sales rows and ZIP codes are not stored.

9. Changes and law

We may change these terms with a notice in the changelog and, for material changes affecting paid tiers, by e-mail 30 days ahead. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without prejudice to mandatory consumer protection in your country of residence. Disputes go first to hello@veriport.io.
